About Dr. Sondra Stegenga Dr. Stegenga is the Director of Research and Innovation at the Oregon Infant Mental Health Association. She has over 30 years of experience in the fields of health and education serving individuals across the lifespan. She has provided services and supports to children and families as a home visitor, occupational therapist, early intervention program administrator, and state council member across a range of environments including early intervention, schools, and hospitals. She also has worked as a tenured faculty member helping to drive best practices in pre-service and scale-up the workforce in early intervention and early childhood special education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in behavioral science, Master of Science in occupational therapy, a Master of Education in educational leadership – special education administration, and a Ph.D. in Special Education – Early Intervention. She also holds certifications as a Special Education Director and Elementary Principal.
She has regularly serviced on local, collegiate, state, and national councils, workgroups, and advisory boards to improve practices for young children with disabilities throughout the United States; including being a Governor appointed member of state Early Intervention State Interagency Coordinating Councils over the years. Dr. Stegenga’s research areas center on the development, implementation, and scale-up of evidence-based practices and policy in birth to three early intervention (EI) and educational systems. Dr. Stegenga has served as the PI or CO-PI of several federal and state grants focused on systems change and implementation science to improve practices in the field of early childhood, mental health, and education. She also has spoken nationally and internationally, including headlining and invited presentations, on using the science of implementation to improve quality, implementation, and scale-up of evidence-based practices in early childhood and educational systems across the lifespan.
